Makakatana Bay LodgeMakakatana is a Privately owned Lodge in the middle of the "World Heritage Site". We are not on a mains water supply, so we pump from the Bore Hole, process it and then store it in huge "Joko" Tanks. Our Lodge roof is also designed to collect rain water which is then stored in huge water Tanks. The lights on our Boardwalk are on solar power, which are left at the pool during the day to recharge. We are also busy replacing the globes in our Lodge with Low energy bulbs. All our rubbish is sorted, biodegradable Items are left to rot on a compost heap and the bottles and cans etc are collected and sent away to be recycled and the rest is burnt in a small furnace daily, se we never have any rubbish lying around. Being in the heart of Zululand and have access to a lot of crafts, our craft shop is stocked with a lot of the local weaving and embroidery from the African ladies from Ilala Weavers and farms in our area, we also take our Guests to visit local crafters in our area, should they wish to do some shopping.
