Mosaic Private Sanctuary

Hidden amongst a grove of ancient milkwoods, discover a place where time stands still. A place for contemplation and adventure. Tucked away near picturesque Stanford, Mosaic is the Cape’s answer to the luxury African sanctuary lodge.

Lose yourself somewhere between ocean, lagoon and the glistening Overberg mountains. Like its name suggests, this 1,000-hectare property offers the fortunate few a truly multifaceted guest experience. After a spot of bird watching from the seclusion of your verandah, head down the board-walk for a hearty breakfast in the intimate dining room. Amongst the continental options, expect freshly baked muffins, farm butter, sumptuous fruit platters and home-made jams.  Hot fare is prepared to order and, as with all meals, is made with love – built around fresh, seasonal and regionally sourced ingredients.

Daytime activities here vary from kayaking and quad biking for the more active to relaxing lagoon cruises and sundowners along the secluded 16km Walker Bay Beach coastline adjacent to Mosaic. You may also be fortunate enough to spot an endangered caracal on your way down to the historical and beautifully restored “Spookhuis”. Stories are often shared back at the lapa where the heated pool offers another vantage from which to survey the lagoon and keep an eye on the prolific local bird population. Return to your  suite in the evening down boardwalks.

The five units are generously proportioned under high thatch roofs and each boasts its own private slice of Mosaic’s breathtaking views. Foldaway glass doors allow guests to take full advantage day and night. Beds are soft and comfortable and baths are large enough to accommodate two as are the outdoor showers.  We’d recommend ordering a bottle of local wine to sip in the privacy of your suite too…best served under the glorious expanse of the star-filled South African sky.

Mosaic Private Sanctuary – More Info

As the name suggests, Mosaic offers the most multifaceted experience in the area with 1000 hectares of conservation land and over 3 km of frontage on the beautiful Hermanus Lagoon. Activities at Mosaic include being immersed in awesome fynbos flowers and bird-life of the Cape Floral Kingdom, lagoon cruises, stunning beaches, fascinating marine life and some of the world’s most beautiful wine lands. This is topped off with warm smiling staff serving fresh cuisine paired with delicious South African wine. Mosaic is also centrally located to whale watching, marine tours, shark cage diving and exploring the Overberg Wine Region, and the perfect location for nature and activity lovers.

For the ultimate private getaway, LAGOON LODGE captures the essence of tranquillity with just five safari style suites woven into an ancient milkwood grove. A pampered stay here is all-inclusive of meals, adventure activities and house beverages/wine/beer/spirits. Relaxing massage, skin and nail treatments can be indulged in at the Mosaic Rain Spa (either indoor or outdoor), using organic Rain Africa products (additional charges apply).

After a touch of bird watching from a secluded verandah, head down the board-walks under a canopy of trees to the heated plunge pool overlooking the mountains and lagoon, where favourite water birds can be spotted. Drinks and meals are shared outdoors or in the dining room by a fireplace that will warm one’s soul.

The cuisine at Mosaic is fresh, delicious and the creative mastery of our chef, our baker, our gardener, and local producers. Breakfast is a hearty fare with freshly baked muffins, home-made jams, fresh fruit and a hot meal. Lunch is served gourmet picnic style outdoors or around blazing fires when there is a chill in the air. Sumptuous dinners are prepared by the chef and built around organic vegetables from the garden and local seasonal ingredients…and best paired with fine South African wine from the Mosaic cellar!

And as evening falls, exquisite colours of the sun setting over the lagoon and the glorious expanse of the star-filled South African sky are witnessed.
