INSPIRATIONAL PLACES

We like to think that each exceptional property and service in our collection speaks for itself… This is why we’d rather not burden you with lengthy descriptions or clichéd platitudes, we’d prefer merely to introduce you – simply and conveniently – to some of Africa’s most celebrated and unashamedly upmarket travel offerings.

Each privately-owned property and boutique service you encounter has been carefully selected for its singular style, authentic sense of sophistication and devotion to all things impeccable. Each is characterised by excellence – pure and simple. We’ve been uniting discerning travellers and properties of distinction for years. Suffice to say, we think we’re rather good at fulfilling this sole mission: “to bring Africa’s finest spaces to the world”. It seems we’re not alone – indeed, you may well find yourself here today as a result of a recommendation. Whatever the reason, however, we hope you’ll leave inspired.

OUR TEAM

Allie Hunt   |   Owner

Born and raised in Johannesburg, with a deep desire to travel abroad from a very early age, Allie’s graduation from Hotel School was the solution to combining her passion with making a living. Africa had to wait, as the UK and Europe were the first destinations to explore. Returning to South Africa, her adventures ranged from working on a luxury yacht in Madagascar, to being part of the Fancourt team, meeting Mandela, and being instrumental in many events hosted at The Sandon Sun. Her connection to the UK was however strong, and ten years later, she returned to London where she worked in luxury hotels for eight years. Family is very important to her, and this, combined with a great job offer in Cape Town, saw Allie returning to South Africa with a UK passport in hand. Her journey of Africa travel began when she had the opportunity to take over Inspirational Places in 2008.  Back in South Africa, Allie also follows her passion for the great outdoors – running, cycling, open water swimming, horse riding, hiking and of course, embracing one of the best wine regions in the world by doing a fair amount of wine tasting, connecting with friends and family.

Helen Balidis   |   Sales and Marketing Support

Born and bred in the Jacaranda city of Pretoria, from a young age Helen had a love for travel and exploring with her family. After school she delved into the world of academics at university, but quickly decided that travel was where she wanted to be and followed that path instead.  Married with two lovely daughters, the family moved to Durban 19 years ago.  Over the last 30 years Helen’s career has spanned a variety of specialities within the travel industry, ranging from consulting and contracting, to sales and marketing, most recently as the appointed Sales and Marketing Assistant of Inspirational Places. Although she has travelled around Europe and the UK, her heart remains in Africa where she has a passion for exploring new spots and hidden gems.  Helen’s chill-out time is spent with her family and pets, cooking new and exciting dishes, reading a good book, camping, or enjoying a walk in her beautiful province of KZN.

Glynis McPherson   |   Admin Support

Born in Zimbabwe, Glynis was schooled in Johannesburg and is now based in Cape Town at the head office of Inspirational Places. Her career in travel was launched at South African Airways’ central reservations. After three years she spread her wings to work for outbound travel agencies for the next 25 years, including Thomas Cook and American Express. Her work experience also includes 12 years at Singita, where she was PA to the head of the marketing department and her duties included media and educational bookings. At Inspirational Places, Glynis is the appointed Administrative Assistant to Allie Hunt and the Sales and Marketing team. She loves gardening and the great outdoors and is a keen hiker, having clocked 800km on foot when she crossed Spain as part of the Camino de Santiago.
